Space for Innovation in Rail - Towards Satellite Based ERTMS (13th – 14th September Madrid)

During the session “Bringing Innovation to the Market - Are Satellites on the Track?” of the Space for Innovation in Rail event, the CLUG 2.0 project coordinated by UNIFE was presented by Jose Bertolín (Project Coordinator of CLUG 2.0).

As the project just started (February 2023), Jose Bertolín focused his speech on presenting the main scope and objectives of the project together with its main figures (start, end, duration, budget and partners of the consortium).

The collaboration and integration of the different initiatives and agencies involved in the Absolute Safe Train Positioning activity was highlighted as one of the main enablers for the use of the GNSS and EGNOS in rail safe localization Actually, Jose Bertolín presented CLUG 2.0 as a clear example of this collaboration between EUSPA and ERJU.

Space for Innovation in Rail event gathered Europe’s major transport stakeholders, including key decision makers and the railway sector representatives across the entire value chain, debating the introduction of the European Union’s Space Programme assets in the railway domain. The main focus of the event was on the European Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) utilisation for rail-safe train localisation within the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) evolution.
